About The Shortcutter
He is a very lazy man.
Until I expand on it here, you can read the first post on this blog or my “rant” to get an idea of where we’re coming from.
Some basics:
I am convinced, from many years of working with FCP and from my experience as an Apple-Certified Trainer and Instructor at San Francisco State University, that effective use of keyboard shortcuts is the single best way to grow as an editor.
The best way to use this site is to visit every morning and make a point of using that day’s shortcut throughout the day. We will rerun the shortcuts over time, so you’ll be able to absorb it all if you stay with us. This site’s unique approach is to make the learning a regular habit and give you time to assimilate the material effectively.
This site will always publish on weekdays and we’ll usually also publish on weekends, but we’ll keep the weekend posts to the more rudimentary material.
About me:
I am Dave Hurley and I’m a Phoenix, Arizona-based freelance video editor and motion graphics designer doing mostly corporate work. I have been an Apple Certified Pro Apps Instructor for FCP, Motion, DVD Studio Pro and Soundtrack and I have taught these topics for San Francisco State University’s Multimedia Studies Program. I have worked as an FCP and editing room support tech for Bexel at major professional sports events. In a previous life, I was a corporate marketing product manager for companies like First Nationwide Bank and Pacific Bell (SBC). My professional website is here and my personal site is here. I can be reached at dave at shortcutter dot com.
