Anyone for a Spot of TTTT?
In spite of the many powerful tools for ripple editing available on the timeline (which we will cover in time), there will be occasions when you simply have to move everything over to make room for some kind of new construction. You’ve got a 20 minute piece laid out with sync and a music bed, but the Producer now wants to build something new near the head.
This can really invite disaster because, unless you SHIFT Z (fit to window) and very carefully make your selection (probably involving intricate command clicks and silent prayers), the big move might do some serious damage that you won’t discover until hours later and CMD Z won’t help (though restore will, but who needs that grief). Well, it’s time you started using one of my favorite shortcuts.
That’s right, you hit T four times in succession to bring up one of the five iterations of the poor, underused Track Tool. The Track Tool is an interesting beast and I urge you to explore it further, but for me, the TTTT version, which enables you to select all content on all (unlocked) tracks to the right of wherever you click it is the winner. When you use TTTT, you don’t have to futz around with zooming the timeline and you don’t have to worry that you’ve broken something. In short, it lets you move all content off to the right with no risk or worry and best of all, it’s fast.
